What makes carpet dirty faster in Medford?

Four things, and a vacuum will not lift any of them out.

Why does my house smell smoky when the furnace comes on?

Wildfire smoke is still in the carpet.

Smoke is PM2.5. Those particles sink past the pile into the fiber and backing, and they do not vacuum out. The Rogue Valley sits in a bowl, and inversions hold smoke near the ground for days at a time.

Oregon DEQ recorded 41 unhealthy air days in Medford between 1985 and 2012, and its trend data shows that number climbing sharply since.

Does carpet make spring allergies worse in the Rogue Valley?

It can, because carpet works like a filter.

It holds pollen, pet dander, and dust mites, then releases them when someone walks across the room. In a house with anyone who has asthma, that is a real indoor air quality issue.

Jackson County is orchard country. Pear blossom, oak, and valley grasses run from March into May.

Why is winter mud so hard on carpet here?

Because it is not really mud. It is fine grit.

Grit cuts carpet fiber every time someone steps on it, and the damage is permanent. Bear Creek Greenway, the Table Rocks trailheads, Prescott Park on Roxy Ann. Medford is an outdoor town with a wet season, and all of it comes back in on boots and paws.

Why does rental carpet look worse than owned carpet?

Because it goes years between deep cleans.

A large share of Medford households rent. Between tenants, carpet takes years of use in one stretch with nothing done in the middle.

Does Medford have hard water?

No. Medford water is soft.

Some cleaners here sell a hard water treatment anyway. Medford Water publishes 1.4 to 2.4 grains per gallon, which the Water Quality Association classifies as soft.

So why does carpet look grey after a cleaning? Minerals are almost never why. It is usually detergent residue, wicking from the pad, or fiber wear.

Carpet worn and frayed through to the backing at a doorway in a Medford home, damage that cleaning cannot repair

When is cleaning not worth it?

Roughly one carpet in ten is past saving, and we will tell you before you pay anything.

At the walkthrough you land in one of three situations.

It cleans up

Most carpet does, including plenty that owners had already written off. You get a price and a date.

It cleans up partly

Old pet urine is the usual case. A surface clean helps the room for a while but does not end the problem if the pad is holding urine. We check with UV before quoting so you hear the honest version first.

Cleaning is not the answer

Pile crushed flat, backing separated, fiber worn through in the walkways, bleach spots, or dye damage. No machine brings that back. We say so, explain why, and do not bill you for the visit.

What happens when we clean your carpet?

Five steps, in this order, every time.

Inspect → Dry vacuum → Pre spray → Extract → Walkthrough

The order is not ours. It comes from ANSI/IICRC S100, the national standard for professional carpet cleaning.

1

Inspect

Fiber type, pile condition, UV check on pet jobs. You get your price here.

2

Dry vacuum

IICRC S100 puts 74 to 79 percent of carpet soil in the dry category. It vacuums out easily while dry and turns to mud once wet. This is the step that gets skipped.

3

Pre spray

Chemistry applied to the carpet and given time to work cleans significantly better than the same chemistry sprayed through a wand. Smoke needs alkaline. Urine needs enzyme.

4

Extract

Truck mounted hot water extraction, with agitation. A bare wand has no brushes and almost no mechanical action.

5

Walkthrough

Every room, with you, before we leave. Then the [X] day callback holds.

Will cleaning void my carpet warranty? Not if the method is right. Shaw and Mohawk both specify CRI approved methods in their residential warranty terms, and cleaning outside those terms can void fiber coverage. We check yours before we start.

Questions People Ask Before They Book

Straight answers to what Medford homeowners ask before booking a carpet cleaning.

How much does carpet cleaning cost in Medford?

Three rooms and a hallway typically runs $200 to $250. A whole home runs $300 to $400.

How long does carpet cleaning take?

Most Medford homes take 1 to 3 hours depending on size and condition.

How long until the carpet dries?

Two to four hours in summer. Four to six in winter or during smoke season with the house closed up.

Do you offer same day service?

Most weeks, yes. Call before noon for the best chance.

Can pet odor be removed?

Yes, if the urine has not soaked into the pad. We check with UV before quoting and tell you either way.

Do I need to move furniture?

No. We move most items. Clear small things off the floor and we handle the rest.

Does carpet cleaning remove wildfire smoke smell?

Yes, but not with a standard clean. Smoke particulate settles into the fiber and backing. It needs an alkaline pre spray with real dwell time before extraction. Soft furnishings in the same room usually need treating too, or the smell returns. If a previous cleaning did not fix it, that step was almost certainly skipped.

Can carpet cleaning remove allergens?

It reduces them substantially. Carpet traps pet dander, dust mites, and pollen. Hot water extraction removes a large share of what vacuuming leaves behind, which is why the IICRC standard says to clean first for health and then for appearance. It is not a medical treatment, and nobody should sell it as one.

How often should carpet be professionally cleaned?

Every 12 to 18 months for most Medford homes. Every 6 to 12 months with pets, kids, or anyone with asthma. Carpet warranties from major manufacturers often require professional cleaning on a set schedule, so check yours.

Can old carpet be restored?

Often, yes. A lot of Medford housing carries mid pile nylon from the 1990s and 2000s that was built to last. Whether it comes back depends on pile condition, pad contamination, and whether the backing is intact. We can tell you at the walkthrough, and we will say no when the answer is no.

Should carpets be cleaned before selling a house?

Yes, and it is one of the cheapest things you can do before listing. Buyers notice carpet immediately. A clean carpet in a 1970s east Medford home reads as maintained. A dull one reads as deferred maintenance across the whole house.

Why did my carpet smell after the last company cleaned it?

Usually overwetting or wicking. Overwetting means too much water went in and not enough came out, so the pad stayed damp. Wicking means contamination in the pad rose back to the surface as the carpet dried. Both are preventable and both are fixable.

Do you tip carpet cleaners?

No tip is expected. Nobody here works for tips. A review or a word to a neighbor is worth more.

Should I vacuum before you arrive?

Not necessary. We vacuum as part of the job. What helps more is clearing small items off the floor and telling us about spots you already treated, because some store bought spotters leave residue that changes our approach.

Are the products safe around kids and pets?

Yes. Everything goes back once the carpet is dry, usually two to four hours. Tell us at booking about any specific sensitivity.

Do you work with landlords and property managers?

Yes, and it is a real part of our work. Itemized invoices, before and after photos, and scheduling built around turnover windows.
